Cybersecurity is constantly changing. As threats evolve, so to do responses to those threats.

The history of cybersecurity is a long and complex one. But even in the last decade, there have been noteworthy advancements in the field. Here are a few of the most significant changes to cybersecurity in the 2010’s.

Artificial Intelligence (A.I.)

The robot takeover has begun.

Luckily for us, they’re on our side. Artificial Intelligence is being used to defend against cyber attacks. From recognizing and preventing malware, to immediately starting the recovery process after an attack, A.I. is working around the clock to keep networks safe.

According to Global Sign, businesses will spend almost $2.6 Billion on preventing cyberattacks from the year 2016 to 2025.

Breach Detection Tools Have Improved

While the volume of hacking attempts have increased in the late 2010’s, the tools IT specialists use to detect these attempts have also greatly improved.

In the past, antivirus scanners were essentially the only way to detect hacking attempts. Now, “intrusion detection” software is produced by more companies than ever, and they are constantly seeking ways to improve their systems.

The result has been quicker detection of hacking attempts, which gives professionals more time to respond to the issue.

Cyber Insurance Sales & Marketing Has Become A Major Industry

It wasn’t too long ago that cyber security insurance didn’t exist at all. Now, individuals are flocking to buy personal insurance protection from cyber crime.

The purpose of this insurance, according to Property Casual, is to, “provide support by investigating and rectifying any damage caused to their device, locating and removing viruses, as well as providing professional consultation in order to prevent future cyber-attacks.”

The growth of the industry is a sign of the times for cybersecurity. People are not only aware of threats now, but they’re even taking steps to prevent and prepare for them

Two Factor Authentication

Authy defines two factor authentication as, “an extra layer of protection used to ensure the security of online accounts beyond just a username and password.”

In other words, two factor authentication is the process that makes you enter an additional phone number or email address to your accounts. The purpose of it is to prevent someone from accessing your accounts with just the username and password alone.

A relatively simple concept, two factor authentication has been a significant development in cyber security. As usernames and passwords have gotten easier to steal, adding another step into that process has made a world of difference.

It can be tough to keep up with the trends and developments of cybersecurity. Just in the last decade alone, the field has been forced to reinvent itself multiple times.

But while trying to keep yourself secure can feel overwhelming, it’s always nice to know that their are professionals working diligently to keep you, and your information, protected.
