The definition of cloud computing that comes from Netco is a straightforward one. Netco describes cloud computing as, “the use of off-site systems to help computers store, manage, process, and/or communicate information.”

And while this definition is completely accurate, the impact cloud computing can have on a company or an individual is much more complex.

The Basics of Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is essentially storing information and data over the internet as opposed to on your devices actual hardware. While it may seem sound complicated since your information isn’t being physically stored on your hardware, the process, in truth, isn’t an extremely complex one.

Think of it this way; Rather than hosting all your information in your hardware, your hosting it on an online server that connects securely to your device.

What are the Benefits?

There are a number of benefits of cloud computing. For the purpose of this article, we’ll stick to three of the main benefits.

Cost. With cloud computing, there’s no longer any need to buy extra hardware or extra storage for your device.
Performance. The reliability and productivity of cloud computing allows users to store data and create backups seamlessly.
Security. The online servers on which information is stored in the cloud are secure. There are also teams of experts ensuring that cloud computing remains a safe and secure place for information.

Again, these benefits are just the tip of the iceberg. Check out this blog from microsoft on more ways cloud computing can help you and your organization.A building with painted on clouds

The Future of Cloud Computing

While cloud computing is already a prevalent tool for users across the world, there are still more areas in which cloud computing can grow.

The solutions offered by cloud computing, according to Michael Corrado of the Hewlett Packard Enterprise, “will most likely represent a combination of cloud based software products and on premises compute to create a hybrid IT solution that balances the scalability and flexibility associated with cloud and the security and control of a private data center.”

In other words, cloud computing technologies may not yet be in their prime.

Cloud computing is a remarkable accomplishment in human technology. And as we all begin to come to terms with the possible usages of the cloud, the future truly does become limitless.
