Why Is My Computer So Slow?

Computers in the business can become slow over time for many reasons.

When you hire new employees, you won’t necessarily buy them a whole new device. You’d give them a computer that’s been used by past employees before.

Maintenance, upkeep, and updates are also major proponents of keeping your computer up to speed. If these fall to the wayside, employees experience lag time and slow working devices.

So what’s there to do on your end, as a business owner? The transfer of technology from old employees or old devices to new employees and new devices can cause some issues with speed.

Transferring Technology

It would simply be out of budget to buy a new laptop, computer, and tablet for each new employee you hire. This is understandable, and it’s healthy and ethically responsible to recycle computers in the business. But the proper transfer of technology is required to ensure these devices are working like new throughout the years.

Transferring technology includes completely wiping the device after all information is stored or backed up somewhere. If unnecessary information that is not being used is stored on computers, that can really slow down the speed of the device. The deeper you clean out your computers and fully dump all data, the more smoothly they will run for the next employee to use.

Updates & Computer Maintenance

Computers will run slowly if they’re not up to date or not operating on the most modern systems. Computer maintenance means running updates and installing the ideal software and operating systems available for your devices.

Each version of or software program you download will obviously be industry specific, so do your research to know it’s a safe version you’re downloading. Every device should have regular maintenance and upkeep over time, meaning you should have your IT specialist work with each device a little bit each month.

Especially with businesses that recycle and reuse computers from past employees to new [employees], like most businesses do, it can be difficult to ensure you’re cleaning out the devices and allowing them to work properly. Reach out to M&H consulting to learn how we can help you with the transfer of your business technology, and ensure you’re functioning up to date and properly.
