There is no doubt that technology helps prepare children for the future. Being introduced at a young age allows children to begin gaining their tech skills. Many people are on the fence about whether or not it’s distracting or helpful to give children access to technological devices. When broken down, technology is a powerful educational tool, so the implementation of its use in adolescence is necessary– but should be greatly monitored to ensure safety and security.

When given a laptop computer, tablet or any technology, children are immediately excited and eager to learn about the devices use. Technology is the cornerstone where all learning styles meet, and each child interacts with their device in their own way. Though it seems individual, its bridging the students to the vast outside world through the internet. This is where monitoring children is important, as well as teaching them how to respectfully treat their technology. If they aren’t introduced and taught correctly, children and technology will not positively mix. But when demonstrated, children have responded tremendously after given freedom to work with a device on their own. When children are mature enough, the resource of a technological device allows them to excel.

Younger children obviously wouldn’t be surfing the internet, so technological devices used for learning, visuals, audio, and games can start initiating hand eye coordination practice and starts sharpening thinking. educational computer programs improve reading, writing, reaction time, hand-eye coordination and other learning functions. When beginning to work with technology, smaller projects are better. Longer tasks and research assignments are for more experienced technology users, more for middle school/high school aged children.

When the time comes and your child is old enough to use the computer individually, you can monitor their computer use in different ways. Monitoring doesn’t just have to be over-the-shoulder.
