Inform People of the Change Ahead of Time

Give people a chance to warm up to the idea of new technologies by letting them know ahead of time what’s coming.

Even if your announcement is initially met by grumbling among your employees, it will at least remove the shock-factor once the day of the change arrives.

It will also give your employees the opportunity to research the tech beforehand, so they can come in with a working knowledge of the methods, tips, and tricks that it will take to be successful.

Educate and Train Your Employees

Training your employees on new technology is crucial to keeping the flow of your office relatively consistent throughout the change.

Offer in person, online, and even hard copy walkthroughs and step-by-step guides to help people get accustomed to the system. Being that people have different learning styles, the more options you can offer in terms of reading and studying materials the better.

In some cases, it may even be helpful to re-train and re-educate employees on the technology.

Expect Negative Feedback

You’ll need to find the delicate balance between hearing your employees out regarding feedback on the technology, and realizing that people are naturally going to be resistant to change (at first).

If you expect the rollout to go perfectly you’re doing yourself a disservice. Doing what you can regarding training and education is your responsibility, but you also need to realize it may take a while before the whole team gets accustomed to the technology.

It can be an exciting time when you’ve found a new system or technology that will improve operations. The challenge lies in getting your team to feel the same way. So educate your employees, help where you can, and remember that these things can take time.
