When the season shifts, we often think about what needs to be done in preparation for the highly anticipated new time of the year. When the fall is approaching, we think about the winter afterwards in preparation for the colder times of the year. There are a few things to ask yourself regarding your business as the seasons change:
What happens the seasons change? When is your slow season and your busy season?
Do you have a plan for emergency preparedness? What if the power goes out in your business? Do you have a generator? Will you have enough battery charge/ access to your business information? Is downtime acceptable in your place of business? How do you back up your information? Is your work automatically saved, or do employees need to remember to manually save work? Will clients need access to your business information? Will downtime effect these clients?
The change of season comes with many questions. Answering these questions will help you decide on the best plan for your business. Emergency preparedness is key when you’re running a business and your client information is sensitive.
Some industries simply cannot allow any downtime. Assess your situation and come up with a plan. An emergency preparedness plan comes with thinking things through, and being prepared for the worst: rain storms, snow storms, loss of power, and disasters can greatly effect your business.
No matter what industry you’re in, you can train your employees to handle anything that comes your way. Be sure your employees are backing up data constantly, and you have a specific plan for when you can’t access business data traditionally. If your computers and business technology is old or outdated, you may want to consider upgrading.
The older your devices are, the more difficult it can be to handle emergencies as they arise. New technology is easily adaptable, and your data is easily transferrable. Especially when your computers are running on modern systems with updates installed as they arise, you will be much safer in the chance of emergency.
