The last decade brought with it significant advancements and evolutions in the cybersecurity industry. We’ve written previously about how cybersecurity changed in the 2010’s, and now we’ll venture our best (educated) guess on how things will change in the decade that follows.
Here are a few notable changes we expect to see in the cybersecurity space over the next ten years.
A Major Increase in A.I.
According to an article from Forbes, 61% of companies in 2019 said they relied on artificial intelligence to identify and respond to cyber attacks. While that number is already a high percentage, it’s a pretty safe bet that it will continue to rise over the next ten years.
Artificial intelligence today is being used to identify attacks, secure our accounts, and help networks recover quicker. But as the technology continues to develop, the possible utilities of it become virtually endless. Facial recognition technologies, retina scans, and threat detection are just the tip of the iceberg regarding how we can eventually use A.I to keep ourselves, and our information, secure.
Emerging & Innovative Cyber Technologies
Beyond artificial intelligence, there are plenty of technologies that are beginning to get noticed around the cyber industry.
Among these technologies is the advancement of the cloud. Storing information in the cloud is becoming an increasingly more secure way for companies and organizations to store their information.
The areas in which the cloud has taken strides in is intruder detection recognition and virtual firewalls. Get used to the cloud, because it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Crisis Response Times Will get Quicker
Threats may never be completely eliminated. Even with advancements in cybersecurity technology, cybercriminals will always find new ways in.
Response times to those threats, however, can be significantly improved. Using tools like artificial intelligence, networks will be able to bounce back significantly quicker after attacks.
Right now, the time it takes a company to get up and running again after cyberattacks is one of the major issues with cybersecurity. But as A.I begins to learn and understand more about these threats, as well as the networks they’re attacking, damage should begin to become limited.
The past decade brought with it exciting new developments, and disturbing new threats in the field of cybersecurity. The next decade will be more of the same, but we anticipate the developments in security to far outweigh the threats.
