Computers can be so helpful and make our lives infinitely easier… when they work correctly. Last week we began looking at computer support issues that are fairly common in order to help our clients with troubleshooting techniques they may want to try on their own. Here are three more issues that you may encounter at some point during your workday.
No Display on the Monitor – Does your computer originally turn on only to have the screen go blank or potentially the screen never actually light up? What troubleshooting tips can you use to try to solve this issue?
- Confirm that the power is indeed on. Check for the LED light on the front of the monitor.
- Has your computer gone to sleep perhaps? Wiggle the mouse or tap a key on the keyboard to confirm that it is not asleep.
- Check the cables to be sure that the monitor is, in fact, connected properly.
- Disconnect the monitor and check if it works on another computer to see if the issue is with the monitor or the computer.
Printer Not Working – It happens at the most inopportune times – the printer stops working when you need a hard copy of a document or data.
- First, confirm that the printer is on. Is the indicator light on? Is it plugged in? If you have a wireless printer, is the connection working?
- Check for printer errors that will be listed on the display. Usually today’s printers will tell you what needs to be done to fix the problem, whether it is a paper jam or low ink.
- Confirm that all cables are plugged in properly and are not loose.
- Use the printer test page on your computer that will print a test page that can give you answers as to what is wrong or why your printer is not responding.
Questions of Security – All day long, clients worry about viruses, malware, and other malicious events happening – and rightfully so. If you have concerns about suspicious emails, updated software, or security issues in general, first confirm that you have the latest version of the anti-virus and anti-malware programs on your computer. When in doubt, call your IT experts to take a look at what may be red flags that a breach has occurred.
