Have you ever had your data plan run out on the day you need to access internet the most? To keep up with the fast paced world of technological change- and to save yourself money/data- its important to know the difference between using cellular data and wifi.
Today we generally need to have access information through smartphones anywhere and anytime. Be sure that you’re getting the most of your plan and that you’re using wifi and cellular data appropriately. This way you’ll face less data overages, additional charges, and overall misuse. You can learn when it’s appropriately use your data plan vs connecting to local wifi around you.
Wifi means Wireless Fidelity. It gives us remote access to the internet. Most people associate Wifi with panic, usually because it’s not around at all, it’s protected by a password, or it’s just plain finicky.
Wifi is a connection to a router. So when you’re stationary, always try to connect to wifi. You can choose a setting in which to automatically connect to Wifi that becomes available to you depending on your location. This means whenever you enter a new area, Wifi options will present themselves on your screen, asking you to connect. This is a helpful and recommended setting.
The moments in which you should use your data plan are when you’re traveling and need information, referring mainly to GPS navigation. Your data plan is established through your cell phone carrier. Most music apps, podcast apps, and anything streaming will use data without prompting you or notifying you. This is when you should prioritize what you really need, and whether it can wait until you’re connected to wifi.
Lack of checking whether Wifi/data is on is usually the cause of misuse of cellular data plans. To us, it can seem like smartphones have a mind of their own. Sometimes settings will be set and we’ll be unaware. To ensure you’re not wasting your GB from your data plan, check before using your smartphone that you’re connected to the most beneficial source. This way you won’t use all your data, and won’t have to pay a fee for additional GBs.
Prioritization is key when toggling between Wifi and your data plan. Some things are urgent, and you need to see them no matter where you are. Being conscientious and connecting to wifi for the majority of your screen time saves your data for moments in which you truly need it the most.
