This is a very important step. This is something we’ve stressed multiple times in many different blogs because it is so important. Updating helps fix whatever security holes needed to be filled in the previous version of the network. By doing this, it is also keeping your files from damaging with any malware or viruses. Overall, it can also help speed up usage of your device.
- Â Â Â Â Create strong passwords.
I know it may seem obvious and maybe even repetitive, but this is another step that is greatly important. Having a strong and easy to remember password can help keep away hackers. Keep in mind that a strong password should be at least 8 characters long with upper & lower case letters along with numbers and symbols. Another hint to keep in mind is to choose phrases that are not obvious, and mix them together for a strong password, and change your password at least every 6 months.
- Â Â Â Â Secure your passwords.
It is ALWAYS a bad idea to physically write down your passwords on a piece of paper. This is the equivalent of going up to a random person and telling them your password. Anyone can gain access to that piece of paper, especially if you accidently misplace or lose it. The best way to keep track of your passwords and keep them secure is by using a password managing service app or program, like 1Password.
- Â Â Â Â Maintain your devices.
Having a maintenance regimen for your devices, like once a month or so, is the easiest way to help expand the lifespan of your device. Simply delete any programs or files that are not being used. You can defragment your hard drive to eliminate any fragmented mess that can cause your device to crash, and scan your device to help find and identify damaged or corrupt files.
